The intention with this essay is to investigate how the narration of the South Korean film Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance (Park Chan-wook, 2002) relates to the Hollywood pictures of today. An important change which David Bordwell pays attention to is an intensifying of former stylistic paradigms in what he denominates as intensified continuity. That said, Bordwell and Kristin Thompson are in agreement on that the new films still are predominantly classical. The neoformalistic standpoint which Thompson and Bordwell use appears however to contain some problematic implications.

The purpose of this essay is to study two film adaptations of the original Planet of the Apes novel and see what kind of relationship the two adaptations have with each other. The main question is if the secondary film adaptation is restricted by the primary and if the relationships between these two are as two separate adaptations or as a remake of an adaptation. What the results of the study show is that the secondary adaptation can not be seen as a remake even though it gets some of its inspiration from both the original story as well as the primary adaptation. The secondary adaptation is, however, restricted in what it can adapt due to the primary adaptation having the first pick, at least if the secondary adaptation wishes to be a whole new adaptation and not a remake of the primary. The study shows also that the fidelity in the secondary adaptation is not necessarily to either the original or the primary but to the knowledge the audience has about the Planet of the Apes universe which they have gathered from all of the important versions of the story.

Följande undersökning behandlar uppbyggnaden av en CV-film med utgångspunkt i sociologen Erving Goffmans teori om identitet och självrepresentation samt filmteoretikern David Bordwells teori om narratologi. Goffmans teori har använts för att ta reda på vad som ska framställas i filmen medan Bordwells teori applicerats på frågan om hur filmen ska framställas. Inom det teoretiska ramverket finns även Stuart Halls teori om representation för att kunna belysa teorierna av Goffman och Bordwell utifrån ett gemensamt perspektiv. Fokusgruppmetoden har använts för att kvalitativt samla information om vad en CV-film bör kommunicera till skillnad från ett skriftligt CV. Samt hur den bör utformas för att vara så användbar som möjligt. Resultatet visade att filmen inte bör vara längre än 2-3 minuter för att behålla publikens intresse.

Uppsatsens syfte ligger i att undersöka huruvida filmteoretikern David Bordwells två inflytelserika berättarmodeller från 1980-talet fortfarande återfinns inom samtida filmproduktion. Jag fördjupar mig i det klassiska- respektive konstfilmsberättandet och jämför vidare de typiska elementen från de två berättarmodellerna med formatet slow cinema. I definitionen av slow cinema utgår jag ifrån filmvetaren Matthew Flanagans utredning av vad formatet innebär samt de tre byggstenarna han anser vara mest väsentliga. Dessa är långa tagningar, en ickeberättande struktur och skildringar av realistiska, vardagliga skeenden. Med en utgångspunkt i detta utför jag en närläsning av Alfonso Cuaróns film Gravity (2013).

This essay is a narrative analyze of the computer game Halo. The purpose of the essay is to see what function the narrative elements have in a computer game of the action genre. The analyze is done with a neo-formalistic approach according to the theory of David Bordwell and Kristin Thompson. The choice of game was based on it's positive reviews mentioning the story. The essay tries to give a picture of research in the field and researchers views on narratives and computer games.

This essay examines two modern retellings of the classic fairy tale of Snow White and the seven dwarfs in the version of the brothers Grimm. By analyzing the differences in the modern version to the more original one my aim is to be able to see how these objects of popular culture are affected by the type of society they are created within.In my two-step analysis I have first used the theory of narratology to find what changes had been made in the two retellings. The purpose of this work was to investigate the early medieval view of the Bilical king David through the analysis of ten illuminations found in early medieval manuscripts in which he is depicted playing string instruments. First, a description of medieval manuscripts and king David and string instruments was presented, second, an analysis and a discussion of images as source material and an interpretation of the mythic and symbolic significance that is based on ideas presented by Paul Ricoeurs and Roland Barthes of the ten illuminations followed. The results showed that king David often was portrayed as a musical king, a dancer and a prophet that incarnated wisdom and justice; that king David served as a role-model for the Western regents, and that he was portrayed in an idealised and estethically appealing manner..

I am aware of that this is not true history, but it is nevertheless interesting to ask oneself: Why are those people a part of the deuteronomical history? What was the meaning in telling the story in this way?Exegetes and researchers are trying to give the relationship between Jonathan and David a place in the political realm, but here I have used several sources to show that it is not only a political story, but a loveaffair, where Jonathan is pictured as a submissive woman and thereby excludes himself from the throne of Israel. This study aspires to find an answer to what makes a negotiation for peace successful. In our pursue to do so we have chosen two cases to compare with each other through a set of different theories. The theories we believed could be relevant were ripeness/readiness, asymmetry, the strategies of mediation, intra-state conflicts and personal actors.The case-study consists of two negotiations that both took place in Camp David. The first one was between Egypt and Israel, 1978, and serves as the example of a successful negotiation. The second case was, again, with Israel but the counterpart was Palestine and took place in year 2000.
